Markets Tumble - What a Week

QQQQ - Tracking Stock

Time to hold your nerve! The world markets really took a battering in the latter part of the week with US markets giving up over 9% from the highs made on Tuesday. This steep decline occurred on high volume and became a classic case of panic selling. This may or may not continue next week but we are bracing for a volatile week ahead.

The key will be to see if the declines are sustained or not. From a technical perspective we have been watching the divergance that has emerged in a number of technical indicators for some time and we finally saw the market move strongly.

Volatility and strong moves in either direction are good for active traders and we always look forward to these times in the market because they present the best opportunity for profit. The key is to trade with tight stops and a focus on risk management.

In the coming week we anticipate a bounce will develop and it will be important to see if the price will move higher and stay higher. Only time will tell.

Our Portfolio

Our portfolios performed well last week with most making healthy profits. In the week ahead we will be taking a balanced approach with long and short positions in all our portfolios. We anticipate a strong bounce for a couple of days although this is likely only to be very short term. Once the bounce is complete we will shift our focus to a strong weighting on the short side.
